UBA is an acronym for a cosmetic procedure
known as Transumbilical Breast Augmentation. It differs from other breast augmentation procedures in the location of its incision. Instead of being beneath the breasts, around the areola, or in the armpits, it is at the navel.
Cosmetic surgeons have been performing TUBA since 1991, but not all surgeons offer it because it is more challenging for the surgeon, given the distance from the umbilicus (navel) to the implant site.
That is why it is very important to choose a cosmetic surgeon with training in this special technique. Dr. Jeffrey Hartog of The Bougainvillea Clinique in Orlando, Florida has the training, experience and skill to perform TUBA to ensure outstanding results.
Understanding TUBA
TUBA is an endoscopic procedure. An endoscope is a long, flexible tube with a light and camera at its tip. It is computerized and gives the surgeon a highly-magnified view of his work on the monitor. Dr. Hartog makes a small incision inside the navel, passing the endoscope through the incision.
Next, a tunneling device is used to create tunnels or "tracks" extending to each breast, through which saline implants will be passed for placement in a subglandular (above the muscle) pocket. Silicone gel implants are not suitable for TUBA, as they are not inserted empty like saline implants, and being pre-filled, they are too large to be inserted through an umbilical incision.
TUBA Advantages
TUBA offers several advantages when compared with traditional breast augmentation techniques:
TUBA can be a wonderful option for patients choosing both full abdominoplasty and breast augmentation, because operative time and procedure costs are reduced, and the recovery period for both procedures done together is nearly the same as that of just one of them.
