he Pilates method of Body conditioning was developed in the 1920s
by Joseph Pilates a nurse and physical trainer who developed his system to rehabilitate patients injured during the First World War. The Pilates method has quietly survived all the various fitness trends. Previously known only to a few devotees consisting mainly of dancers and gymnasts, Pilates is now gaining wide popularity as a full body, low-impact exercise and conditioning program for life.
"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure."
- Joseph H. Pilates
