Natural Breast Reconstruction with Fat Grafting
Many breast reconstruction procedures use complex techniques involving tissue flaps and breast implants to re-shape your breasts after a mastectomy.
Although these techniques have proven successful, breast implants often introduce complications, and tissue flap methods involve an increased risk level. Additionally, this method sometimes leads to unnatural-looking results – particularly if your breast tissue was treated with radiation.
In order to avoid these issues, Dr. Hartog uses an advanced fat transfer method to naturally re-create your breasts without the need for unpredictable tissue flap procedures or breast implants. Dr. Hartog also uses an scarless technique called the RAFT procedure in the final stages of breast reconstruction to create your breast fold and shape your breasts. One of the benefits of this method is a tightening of your upper abdomen – essentially an upper tummy tuck.
Advantages of the Fat Grafting Method
Reconstruction with fat grafting (also called “lipofilling”) comes with many other advantages for patients, such as:
- Scarless, performed only with small needles. No cuts or incisions.
- Frequently close to normal sensation is restored to the skin of the reconstructed breast.
- 100% outpatient procedure, with fast recovery like a standard liposuction procedure.
- Much lower complication rate than other reconstruction procedures.
- No breast implants or foreign objects inside of your body
- Breasts look and feel natural as they are your own tissue
- Body contouring liposuction as an added benefit
- Fat grafting has demonstrated benefits to help heal scarred tissue, particularly when radiation therapy has been performed as part of the breast cancer treatment.

Part of Dr’ Hartog’s approach is to use the revolutionary BRAVA® device to carefully expand your breast tissue during the reconstruction process. The BRAVA® device increases the circulation and tissue quality in your breast tissue, creating the best possible environment for your fat transfer. This allows the reconstruction to be performed more predictably and with fewer procedures.
