Women’s Health recently ran an article “6 Traits to Look for in a Doctor.” It gives some key things that are must-haves in your doc. We do emphasize that patients should only go to Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, and that is very important. WIth that being said there are definitely other attributes your doctor should have in addition to certifications. Furthermore, this article goes into how a patient recovers is directly linked to their relationship with their physician. There is no question, that the days of house calls are over and bedside manner isn’t quite what it used to be. In doctors defense though they aren’t allowed to practice and give care the way they used to. There is a bit of give and take on both sides. Regardless, your physician should always care about what is best for you whether it’s medically necessary or purely cosmetic.
The key points discussed are:
- Doctor takes their time
- Doctor is well-rested
- Doctor is up-to-date on the latest research
- Doctor doesn’t judge or dismiss your concerns
- Doctor keeps it professional
- Doctor doesn’t just speak to you clinically
At the end of the day doctors are people too and subjected to the same stresses that non-medical people encounter. However, never be afraid to switch physicians if you feel like your needs aren’t being met. We think of our patients as family and feel so grateful that we’ve been entrusted with their care!
